Cİhat Ertürk

Position: Finance Director
Cihat Ertürk completed his associate degree at Sakarya University, Department of Computerized Accounting and Taxation Practices. He transferred to the Department of Economy at Sakarya University in 1999 and graduated from there in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree. In 2003, he passed the Post-Graduate Education Exam and started graduate studies at the Institute of Social Sciences, Department of Finance at Sakarya University. In 2004-2005 he trained in English and specialized in computing. Ertürk has 10 years of experience in accounting practices and became an Independent Accountant and Financial Advisor in 2005. He has worked as a financial advisor in Bahçelievler, Istanbul since the start of 2007. He oversaw the foundation, liquidation, general assembly and other procedures of numerous companies and was actively responsible in their accounting procedures. Ertürk has a Master’s degree and offers financial consulting and management consulting services for companies. He shares up-to-date information and offers online services and consultancy services on his website.

Dr. Kayhan Yalçı

Position: Technology Director
Dr. Kayhan Yalçı is a graduate of Istanbul Technical University Chemical and Metallurgy Faculty. He holds a master's degree and a PhD in Materials Science at Oxford University. He has lived in the UK since 1987 and worked as an Engineering Consultant, a Researcher Scientist, a freelance translator and a technical editor in English and Turkish. After finishing ITU Chemistry Metallurgy Faculty, he completed his master's degree in rapid solidification of aluminium alloys at ITU and PhD in HSLA steels at Oxford University. During his PhD studies, he developed two High Strength Low Alloy Steels at Oxford University. These steels are now being used by BP on the Oil Platforms in the North Sea. Dr. Kayhan Yalci, a technical translator and editor during his entire education life, continued his professional career after completing his studies. During this period, he worked with more than 200 translation agencies in both the UK and the US, both in technical and non-technical matters. Black & Decker, Motorola, Ford, BP, Shell, GoodYear, Toyota, Panasonic, Hilton Hotels and many more. His expertise included Ecology, Environment, Materials Science, Metallurgy, Water and Wastewater Treatment, Microbial Applications and Agriculture. Dr. Kayhan Yalçı is particularly interested in environmental subjects and is also conducting special research in developing new process technologies with the BPI company in the USA. In this context: • He produced the first membrane separation filter in Turkey which is capable of separating whey protein and lactose from each other. • He built a factory in Kars that produces WPC80 (protein powder), alcohol and microbial fertiliser from cheese whey using EU grants. • He used beneficial microorganisms for the first time in Turkey in agriculture and developed the methods of application and increased the agricultural yield, using organic fertilizer and compost produced by these microorganisms without using any chemicals. • Using beneficial microorganisms, he managed to obtain agricultural inputs from all kinds of organic matter, especially kitchen wastes. Dr. Kayhan Yalçı is the director of the RT Biocreative Fuels Europe Limited scientific research and development company, headquartered in the UK. This company is also the European representative of Bio-process Group in the USA. Between 1993 and 1994 he worked as an Assistant Professor at Marmara University and Technical Consultant at TÜBİTAK. In 1995, he studied biomedical materials at the University of Leeds as a postdoctoral researcher in the field of Materials Science. He is married and father of two adult girls.

M. Sc. Noyan Sancar

Position: Project Management / Construction Sector
Noyan Sancar graduated from Robert College Engineering School – which is now Bosphorus University – in Istanbul as a civil engineer in 1968. He served as an engineer of Bechtel, on a river basin planning in Western Turkey. After military service, he was admitted to Noththeastern University, Boston, Massachusetts, USA and completed his graduate studies as a civil/environmental engineer in 1973. He joined Tekser Engineering company in Istanbul and became a partner, after which they formed a construction company and executed design-build construction and operation of major wasewater treatment plants in Turkey and Middle East countries. In !987, he joined Ece Construction Company of Istanbul as Deputy General Manager and later as Managing Director to undertake and complete major urban infrastructure and wastewater treatment plant projects in Libya. In 1992, he joined Arup Turkey as the Associate Director of this international independent consulting engineering trust. He served as the Project Director and Project Manager of design and construction management of many industrial installations, office buildings, historical buildings, concert and conference halls and infrastructural facilities. Also, he was the Sustainable Development Delegate of Arup Turkey in Global Arup Forum. After 2004 he was urged to retire at the age of 60 and he set up his independent consulting company, SANCAR Engineering and as Project Management Consultant, serving Arup Turkey and other developers, contractors, engineering and architectural companies on their local and international projects. Noyan Sancar has published several articles regarding ‘’Sustainable Development” and ‘’Collaboration of Architectural and Engineering Disciplines’’. He is frequently invited to the universities to conduct interactive conferences on Sustainable Development. He joined Turkish GBC in 2007 during the establishment stages of the Council, and strived to take active supporting role in its development, taking positions in the executive committee and other committees. He is also active in Istanbul Project Management Society (IPYD), (International Project Management Institute (UPYE). Sustainability Committee of Turkish Society of Civil Engineers and delegated for the Workshop Commitee of Planning Future Data Centers by the Sustainability Academy of Istanbul. He is a Certified Building Energy Efficiency Auditor of the Ministry of Environment of Turkey and Certified Building Earthquake Retrofit Expert of the Ministry of Reconstruction of Turkey. Also, he is an Accredited Contract Management Instructor of The Knowledge Academy International of U.K., Assigned to train the Project Managers of UNDP from various countries, in Istanbul. After 49 years in profession, Noyan Sancar still maintains the urge to follow up new developments in the profession and also to share is rather wide spectrum of experience with a wide circle of fellow professionals, young or senior.

Dr. Hüdai Kara

Position: R&D, Circular Economy and Sustainable Development
Dr. Hüdai Kara is a resource efficiency and circular economy expert with over 16 years of experience in both private and public sector in the UK, the EU and in Turkey. He specialised in life cycle assessment (LCA), resource efficiency, low carbon sustainable technologies, critical metals research, carbon footprint and management, materials security, renewable energy, waste management, and research and development covering industries from metallurgy to materials, chemical, energy and sustainable buildings. Dr. Kara is also investor for green technologies that has the potential to make the sustainable change. He is founder and Managing Director of Metsims Sustainability Consulting. He is an expert Evaluator for assessing projects for EU research and development funding streams including Horizon 2020 (FP7), Eureka, Eurostars, Cornet and Eco-Innovation. He is author of over a dozen of scientific papers in refereed journals and presented in many international conferences. He has been selected as an advisor to European Innovation Partnership on Raw Materials. He sits on the Technical Committee of the Int. EPD System and leading the Scientific Research and Building Materials committee of the Turkish Green Building Council. Dr. Kara has B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from Istanbul Technical University and Doctor of Philosophy in Materials from the University of Oxford.

Assoc. Prof. Osman Devrim Elvan

Position: International Environmental Law
A lecturer at Istanbul University, Faculty of Forestry, Department of Environment and Forestry Law, Osman Devrim Elvan completed primary, elementary and high school education in Ankara. He completed his graduate and doctoral studies at the faculty where he now lectures, and is a graduate of Yeditepe University, Faculty of Law. Elvan currently gives undergraduate, graduate and doctoral courses on Forests, Environment, Wildlife and Professional Legislation in Forestry at Istanbul University Faculty of Forestry, at Istanbul Technical University Department of Environment Engineering, and at Yeditepe University Faculty of Law. Elvan is a member of the faculty board at Istanbul University, Faculty of Forestry, second chairman of TMMOB Chamber of Forest Engineers Istanbul Branch, Member of the Board of the Association for Protection of Istanbul Belgrad Forest, member of the Sarıyer city council, member of IUFRO Section of Environment and Forestry Law, member of the European Assembly of Foresters, and a consultant for International Union of Students of Forestry in Istanbul/Turkey. He has written numerous national and international scientific publications on forests, environment, wildlife, mining and water legislation.

Prof. Dr. Arif Hepbaşlı

Position: Certified Energy Manager / Energy System Engineering, Head of the Department – Yaşar University
With his 10 years of experience in the industry, Prof. Dr. Arif Hepbaşlı continued his career as the chief engineer for the projects implemented for three companies at Ege University. He worked as the assistant manager at the Institute of Solar Energy at Ege University in 1997-2000 and as the assistant manager at EBİLTEM (Ege University, Centre for Science and Technology Applications and Research) in 2000-2001. He worked as a guest lecturer at Canada Ontario Institute of Technology in 2004-2005, and at the King Saud University in Saudi Arabia in 2010-2012. Hepbaşlı specializes in assessment of energy-related systems through analyses of energy, exergy, exergo-economic and environment, in energy efficiency and management of sustainable cities, in exergy-based performance assessment of buildings, and soil- and water-based heat pumps. Hepbaşlı has published more than 645 articles and is a certified industrial energy manager. He has written numerous titles and book chapters in national and international publications and is currently a member of the International Advisory Board of several prominent reviews on energy as well as an assistant editor for the Journal of Energy Engineering (ASCE). Acting as an arbitrator in several industrial projects, he has been one of the Turkish experts on the Energy Configuration at Horizon 2020 Program Committee since 2014, and a member of the Energy Working Group at Turkish Academy of Sciences (TUBA) since 16 February 2017.

Prof. Dr. Alpagut Kara

Position: Director of Ceramic Research Centre – Anadolu University
Prof. Dr. Alpagut Kara completed his undergraduate studies at Istanbul University, Department of Metallurgy Engineering in 1988, his graduate degree at University of Leeds, program of Engineering Ceramics in 1991, and his doctorate studies at University of Bath, Department of Material Science and Engineering in 1999. Kara has been working as a lecturer at Anadolu University, Department of Material Science and Engineering since 1999. He has written approximately 80 publications for national and international journals and congresses. Besides his academic career, Kara is closely engaged in the industry, and worked as the Assistant R&D Coordinator of Seramik Araştırma Merkezi A.Ş., a technopark company, in 2007-2010; he has been working as the R&D Coordinator at the same company since 2010. Kara is the founding partner of MDA İleri Teknoloji Seramikleri Ltd. Şti., which specializes on use of advanced technology in developing ceramic and composites. He has been a member of the board of Turkish Association of Ceramic (YSD) since 2010, a member of the board of the Turkish Association of Ceramic and Refractory Manufacturers (SEREF) since 2011, and a member of the mirror committee of TSE:MTC 10 Ceramic Tiles since 2010.

Assoc. Prof. Gökçen A. Çiftçioğlu

Position: Chemical Engineering – Marmara University
Now a lecturer at Marmara University, Faculty of Engineering, Department of Chemical Engineering, Assoc. Prof. Gökçen Alev Çiftçioğlu completed primary education in the USA, and elementary and high school education in Istanbul. Çiftçioğlu is a graduate of Yıldız Technical University, Faculty of Chemistry and Metallurgy, Department of Chemical Engineering. She completed her first graduate degree and doctorate studies at Istanbul University, Faculty of Sciences, Department of Chemical Engineering, and her second graduate degree at Istanbul Technical University, Faculty of Life and Social Sciences, Business Management in English. Çiftçioğlu has written numerous national and international publications on assessment of life cycle, modelling of polymerization kinetics, and thermodynamic calculations. She still gives undergraduate, graduate, and doctorate courses on Assessment of Life Cycle in Chemical Industry, Thermodynamics in Chemical Engineering, Economics of Engineering, Management of Sustainability, Introduction to Economics, Advanced Separation Technologies, Workplace Health and Safety at Marmara University, Faculty of Engineering.

Prof. Luıs Braganca

Position: University of Minho
Luis Braganca is Professor at the Civil Engineering Department, is Director of the Building Physics and Construction Technology Laboratory and is Director of the Master Course in Sustainable Construction and Rehabilitation. He has Ph.D., M.Sc. and Licentiate in Civil Engineering and his main areas of interest are: Sustainable Construction Development (assessment tools, life-cycle analysis and building sustainable technologies), Building Acoustics and the Rational Use of Energy in Buildings. He participates actively in the national standardizing work concerning Sustainable Construction, Building Thermal Performance and Building Acoustics. He coordinates and participates in several international and national research projects. He is author and co-author of more than 200 publications, including books, chapters of books, and articles in international and national journals and papers in international and national conferences. Professor Luis Braganca is the President of the International Initiative for a Sustainable Built Environment (iiSBE), Chairman of the Technical Committee on Sustainability & Eco-Efficiency of the Steel Construction of the European Convention for Constructional Steelwork(ECCS TC14), Chairman of the Education Committee of iiSBE, Board Director of the Association iiSBE Portugal, is involved in R&D and standardization (CEN/TC350 Sustainability of construction works), is the representative of the Portuguese Construction Technology Platform in ECTP (European Construction Technology Platform) and is the representative of Portugal in the COST Domain Committee "Transport and Urban Development".

Nıls Larsson

Position: iiSBE Director
Nils Larsson is an architect and is Executive Director of the International Initiative for a Sustainable Built Environment (iiSBE), an international non-profit organization. During the 1990's he developed and managed a demonstration program for high-performance buildings for the Government of Canada, which resulted in the first public adoption of the integrated design process (IDP). Since 2008, NL has represented the international partners (CIB, iiSBE, UNEP and FIDIC) in coordinating the regional and global SB conferences. He is the key organizer of the Sustainable Building Challenge, an international project to showcase high performance buildings in conjunction with global SB conference events, and the principal developer of the SBTool, a system for assessing the sustainability performance of buildings. His current activities are focused on management of the SB Challenge process as well as a contract with UNDP and the Turkish Ministry of Energy for the development of IDP guidelines in that country. Mr. Larsson is a frequently invited keynote speaker at conferences related to sustainable building and he is a Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada.

Sven-Olof Rydıng

Position: Head of ECO Platform Executive Board / Director of EPD International
Sven-Olof Ryding is an Associate Professor in System Ecology at the University of Uppsala. He has held several positions about scientific work such as Associate Professor at the University of Linköping and Head of Research at the Swedish Environmental Research Institute, IVL. He has been leading operational work as Senior Environmental Advisor at the Confederation of Swedish Enterprises and Managing Director for the Swedish Environmental Management Council, the former Swedish expert organization on Sustainable Procurement. He has been engaged and led several international activities and standardization work "with regard to sustainable development and procurement” within EU, UN and bilateral work around the world. Now, he is the Chairman of the ECO Platform. The objective of ECO Platform is the development of verified environmental information of construction products, type III declarations called EPD (Environmental Product Declarations).

Ceren Yazıcı

Position: M. Sc. - Sustainability Specialist
Ceren has a role of Sustainability Specialist at SÜRATAM. She has significant knowledge on combined experience in resource efficiency, low carbon sustainable technologies, carbon footprint and management, life cycle assessment, renewable energy, energy efficiency, waste management, product environmental profiles. She is the first point of contact in EPD Turkey, which is the Turkish hub of The International EPD System and dealing with registration and publication of Environmental Product Declarations. She is interested in sustainable development and involved with R&D activities. She completed her master’s degree on Sustainable Technology and Business at the Environmental Technology Department of Lappeenranta University of Technology in Finland. In addition to her major studies, she also completed subspecialty education on Bioenergy Technology, Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency. She wrote a graduate thesis on the challenges of sustainability in the Turkish energy sector and the impact of solar energy on these challenges. Ceren has Industrial Engineering degree from Özyeğin University, Istanbul and a graduate of Istanbul Saint Joseph French High School.
